First Season a Big Success!

U10 Celebration
At the start of the outdoor season, 14 U10 players
decided to leave league play to instead participate
in a player development academy at Victoria.  The
goal of this program is to provide a much better
alternative to the current model of players playing
in games that see coaches more concerned with
success then with player development.

This program is designed to follow the CSA's Long Term Player Development model and
emphasizes development over winning.  This program which is focused on the technical requirements of the individual player is one that is followed in every soccer rich nation of the world and one that we believe will give our players a technical advantage as they progress in this sport.

Players in this program train three times a week with friendlies arranged throughout the 3 month program to test our training and to give players to opportunity to compete.  This past season we also competed in a tournament.  While biased in my opinion, it was quite obvious that our players were looking to play the game, understanding basic principles of play such as dispersal while in possession and compactness while defending.  Our young players have also been developing the confidence to try to take players on 1v1 which is a skill sorely missing in our Canadian soccer.

Victoria will be looking to expand this program this indoor with our ultimate goal to create an in-house elite player development program for U8s and U10s that will focus on the individual and follow player development models being used in most soccer rich nations.
